The River

The River was released on 19 December 1984 and directed by Mark Rydell. Mark Rydell is a well known director and he has won 3 Oscars and been nominated for 9. The River was nominated for 4 Oscars and won 2 of them. Sissy Spacek was nominated for “Best Actress in a Leading Role”, Vilmos Zsigmond for Best Cinematography, John Williams for Best Music, Original Score and Nick Alphin and his crew for nest sound. The movie didn’t win any of these prices but it won Golden Reel Award for Best Sound Editing – Sound Effects unknown. The movie was filmed many places across USA but most importantly in Birmingham, Alabama, USA.

The main actors in the movie are Mel Gibson playing as Tom Garvey and
Sissy Spacek as Mae Garvey. The story is about Tom Garvey and his family they have to fight floods of financial crises and the local capitalists, tries to get them to move from their land because they want to build a reservoir. Tom Garve and his family then have to fight against the local capitalists to keep their land. However local capitalists play a dirty game and they are getting more problems then they first thought they would.
